Extended battery disconnect

Just wanted to know if there are any detrimental effects to disconnecting the battery on the 35 for long periods...I.e for a few weeks at a time to save the battery whilst the car is not in use over winter?

My garage doesn't have power currently so keeping it on a trickle charger isn't an option until I get that sorted.

Would rather just leave the battery off, but was wondering if I would run into any immobiliser or electrical issues down the line when I re-connect the battery after being off for any extended period?

Thanks

Not a direct answer but I have a garage with no power and this year fitted a CTEK CS Free with Solar Panel. Not cheap but keeps my garaged car nicely charged.

Hi.ive just had a look at the ctek solar charger and like you say John, they aint cheap but there again, nor is a GTR.......I think i would rather keep the battery on trickle charge than disconnect it for long periods and have possible problems when reconnecting.......

I have had my battery off for months.
When you connect it back it you don’t have any issues.
If you have Ecutek installed you will find that your maps go down to the 95 one and you have to reset all the shift pops , godzilla mode etc … or at least mine it does. Apart from that nothing out of the ordinary.
Mine has been off since February cos I am working on the car. In a week or so I will be finished and give it a go and will inform you if something else arises.

That solar charger looks like a pretty nice bit of kit.

Having looked at a few threads both UK/US there isn't anything that would indicate a problem with disconnecting the battery long term. Think where people have had issues is with letting the battery drain first or problems associated with non standard cars.

I think I will trial doing it over the coming months until I get permanent power hooked up and will let people know how I get on.

There is one downside to the CTEK kit that I forgot to mention. The connectors to the vehicle are a different spec to all their other chargers and no accessories suce as cable extenders or eyelet connections are available. CTEK say this is because they are spec'd to carry 30A....

leaving a battery to go flat is never good. Its worth going once a month with a long cable and charging it back up or take it out to the house?

Two weeks is the maximum on mine without auxiliary charging.
Have connected a CTEC CS free via a comfort connector. As has been said above there are very little accessories available for them. So had to solder the male connector from the supplied crocodile clips to the 2.5m extension cable to allow two male ends. Works fine, I keep an eye on the battery condition via the Antigravity battery tracker Bluetoothed to my phone. So when it gets low I just charge the CS up (1 hour) and reconnect.
